births

Giving birth is such an intimate and personal moment in a persons life, and allowing another person to be there that might be outside of your usual support circle is a big decision. So, if you are on my page considering me to photograph your birth I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I’ve read somewhere once that most women go into birth with their eyes closed, which not only is true but is also why having your birth documented can be one of the most beautiful things. It allows you to look back with open eyes and with pride on who you are and what you’ve accomplished.

Frequently asked questions

When will you arrive to my birth?

Generally, I tend to try and be on the safe side and want to head your way when you begin active labor. 4-5 cm is a good indicator, and as soon as I hear that I will head your way!

What if I have a C-section?

Every birth deserves to be documented - because every birth is empowering and beautiful. I will still document your birth no matter how it happens. We can cover this more on your consultation call if you’d like!

What if you're busy, sick, or can't make it to the birth?

I will do my very best to make sure that I make it to your birth - however things do happen that we don’t always have control of, ie: super short labors, sickness, etc. Being prepared for these situations is so important to me - I have a couple back-up photographers on hand that I trust and would call in the event that I am unavailable for any reason.

However, if the birth happens so fast that I am unable to arrive in time or came just afterwards, we can talk about extending the birth fee’s over into a newborn or family session as well. When you reach out about your due date, I will disclose any personal or work events I may already have planned and we can discuss moving forward!

Other sessions with the exception of weddings get rescheduled and compensated if I get called to a birth.

Where are you located and where do you offer birth photography?

I live in Hudsonville so I am right in the middle of West Michigan. I will serve anywhere from Grand Rapids to Holland - if you are outside of this area and still want to talk, let me know!

Can we have some alone time after the baby is born?

Absolutely. It is so important to have your wishes honored after your baby is born and we can definitely allow for some time for you to be alone and bond after your birth if that is something you desire. Just mention it to me in our consultation!

What if my birth is super long?

Every person’s birth is so so different, and some are longer than others which is one of the reasons that birth photography is an investment - BUT I will be there with you every step of the way. If you call me when you are in active labor, I will stay until after your baby is born no matter how long that is.
